BCCS UPDATE - OCTOBER 2023

We are now counting down to our annual Convention - join us to attend!

2022 saw the long-awaited return of the BCCS Convention, which was held in Birmingham on Sat 14th May. It was a successful event: we hosted a walking tour of the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter; long-standing members met up for a chat and new joiners were introduced; hundreds of compacts were bought, sold, and swapped; there was a raffle with some unique compact-related prizes; and an engaging talk by a guest speaker.

Throughout last and this year, our Regional Groups were able to meet up again in person. Our members-only Facebook Group has gone from strength to strength, and has just reached 100 members! It's a dynamic community for sharing photos, exchanging information, discussing and asking questions about vintage compacts. Compact themes are also announced at the beginning of every month as an activity for the Group. Examples of recent monthly themes were 'Sunny Side Up', 'Case Closed', and 'Pearly Queens'.

So far this year, we've had two colourful and information-packed 'Face Facts' newsletters: the Spring issue with a 'Continental Cousins' theme; and the Summer issue with a 'Princesses & Palaces' theme. The Winter 2023 issue will be based around the theme 'My Fair Lady', and will be landing on doormats before Christmas :-)

We are now counting down to our 2023 Convention, in Didcot (near Oxford), on Saturday 28th October - we can't wait! It will have all of the usual features, including the buying, selling and displaying of a huge number of compacts! It's a members-only day, and if you join the BCCS now, there's still time (by Fri 13th Oct) to book a ticket, the price of which is kept as low as possible and only covers the cost of running the event.

What's more, in keeping with these challenging times, the BCCS hasn't raised membership prices for the last several years, and it remains excellent value. So please do join us! :-)
