BCCS Annual Convention

Watch the video from our 2025 30th anniversary convention

The annual BCCS convention in October is a key highlight in the calendars of our members. It brings together collectors, sellers and enthusiasts for a day focused entirely on powder compact collecting. Attendees can buy, sell and discuss pieces from across all eras, from well-known makers to rare and unusual finds.

For many members, the convention is a unique opportunity to access items from private collections that are not available at antiques fayres or online sales platforms. It is also a chance to hear from expert speakers and connect with others who share the same passion.

Whether you are an experienced collector, or attending for the first time – seeing so many compacts in one room never gets old, or any less exciting!

More about the day

The morning begins with shopping! Sales tables are set up in our main sales hall and members walk around, browsing at what’s available, chat to fellow members, and shop. There is always a good mix of vintage powder compacts and related vanity items available, from floral Strattons and patterned Zenettes, to rarer art deco and beautifully enamelled pieces.

The BCCS Convention is also a great place to find novelty compacts such as the Kigu flying saucer, Pygmalion piano, Dali Bird in Hand or Volupté Golden Gesture hand shaped compact.

Later in the morning there is a coffee break and often a social activity, followed by two-course lunch which gives everyone a chance to catch up with friends new and old and share their latest finds.

Guest speaker

In the afternoon, there is a guest speaker. Topics vary from year to year but they always relate to vintage powder compacts and collecting in some way. Previous topics have included:

  • 100 Years of Make-up for the Screen: Techniques, Trends & Tales from Behind the Scenes
  • Let’s Look at Lucite
  • Brands and Themes of French Compacts
  • European Tour of Enamels
  • Not Just ‘Another Stratton’

There is also a raffle and a Bring & Buy table running alongside everything else.
